Like Hopscotch, I think our family thought we were just stumbled or something. However, not attending the memorial makes it more clear to them, I'm sure. The funny thing is that my parents have not really asked, I don't think they want all that unleashed. They have made snide remarks to the kids like " why are mom and dad depriving you of the spiritual nourishment that you need?"(gag). My in laws live out of town, last time they were here and we didn't join them for a meeting, there was a lot of fist banging and name calling on their part to the point that they are not welcome in my home. We have talked to them about the child abuse cases, they say "that is none of your business, it's your job to stay close to god's organization". We both have other family members "in the truth", but this organization kind of severs real family bonds, we are all just drones for the society. If I am not there or they never speak to me again, I don't think they really care. They are just ice cold robots that have another meeting to get ready for.

Oompa, I think you can afford to more quiet and polite about it when it is your parents and extended family. But I don't think it is as easy when you are married to one, I would be the same way, every argument or decision would come back to the fact that you are a JW. Don't think I could do it.

Your relationship with your children is different than with your mate
by palmtree67 ini was reading easyrider's thread about the co's council on children and the comment about the discrepancy between kicking out your kids vs. keeping a mate who doesn't serve jehovah.. i think your relationship with your kids is very different than your relationship with your mate.. your kids will always be your kids, no matter what.
nothing will ever change that.. not so with your mate.
they could die or you could divorce.

I have noted that many middle aged JWs seem very saddened by parenting and express that they wish they didn't have children. How very sad! Good lord they hold the bar too high. If the poor kid happens to smoke a cigarette, get a girlfriend, play a sport, go to college, he's dead to them. These are just normal events. I agree that your child relationship is more important than your mate, a mate can be replaced a child or a parent cannot. My husband is equal in my heart to my children because he is their father.

Question about snakes
by callitquits76 inhi everyone, long time no post but i wanted your opinion on something please.. well a friend of mine has just got a corn snake.
its a baby but it will grow up to 6ft.
i never considered myself anti-snake because i know people do have phobias on them, but seeing it in action, including the way it eats, has really put me off - not only snakes, but also, the friendship.

I don't think it's a character flaw if you do like snakes, I could still be friends. But no way could I enter a home where there was a snake, I am really, really afraid of them. What if it got loose and it slithered.......OMG can't think about it!

"You have a good point, but of course we still have the Truth"
by BonaFide inthat is the bottom line for a witness.
i have tried so many times to reason with witnesses, and they react the same as i did almost all my life.
the only success i am having is hopefully planting some seeds, because that worked with me, over a period of time.. many threads on here describe reasonings and great points designed to "wake up" witnesses.

Little by little we can change things, I just don't think so Bonafide. It's kind of like those hard core Catholics that I have met at the door or studied with, you ain't gonna change 'em. Please get out and enjoy your life! Life will pass you by. From someone with many loved ones" in",(I feel your pain), you are banging your head against the wall.

Now that you mention it, my Kitchen aid dish washer seems to have a long cycle too. I never considered that when I bought it. I do like the stainless steel on the inside (less stinky).

Were you afraid to go to a bar?
by rebel8 insomeone who shall remain nameless (*cough*snowbird*cough) mentioned she has never been to a bar.. this shocks me.. i was remembering how terrified i was of going to a bar when i was exiting the mother ship.
i was looking for the lightning bolts to get me.
and it was a big nothing really.

I have always looked for an excuse to frequent bars. Used to only be on vacation, wandering on boardwalk or hotel bar. But now I don't need an excuse, love bars with live bands late at night!

This looks like a good place to introduce myself
by mindmelda inhi, i'm 49 and have been an inactive witness for years now.
i was baptized at age 16 about 33 years ago mainly to please my parents and to fit in, cuz everyone was doing it.
and i was able to answer all those questions in the organization book because i have a near photographic memory, as it turns out.

I'll say what my parents always told me, if I worried about anything in the future like a career, marriage or the bullies on the 3rd grade playground. "Don't worry armageddon will surely be here by then".
